Masters Degrees in Science DMA/FCUP

The Department of Applied Mathematics organizes several Master Degrees per year.

Please, see the available information on how to apply, number of vacancies per year and other relevant information about all the Masters Degrees. In order to find the deadlines for applying, please see the individual pages of these Degrees.

Applied Mathematics

1 year

This Degree not only provides specialized knowledge and an increase of experience in handling those concepts in different situations (from teaching up to all applications in industry), but can also be seen as a first step to a PhD in Mathematics.

It is one year long, with the first part including different courses in applications of Mathematics, and the second the preparation of the dissertation (see list of dissertations approved in previous years).

Astronomy

1 year

Astronomy is by nature a highly internationalized field of science were multinational collaboration is a longtime tradition. It is important that such collaboration also extends to the very early stages of specialized training, right at the beginning of post-graduate education. This Masters Degree is a collaboration with other European Institutions and comprises the mobility of students and lecturers.
It has one year duration. The first part includes a curricular component of 11 modular courses on important topics in Astrophysics and a seminar. The second part is the preparation of the dissertation (6 months) taking place at the Center for Astrophysics or other European Research Institutes in Astrophysics.

Computational Methods for Sciences & Engineering*

2 years

The main objective of this new masters is to provide adequate knowledge in computational methods and it is planned as a continuation of any degree in engineering, physics or mathematics. It is a complement for engineers responsible for planning projects and production lines, as well as for teachers in high schools, polytechnic schools and universities. It is also adequate for future Ph.D. students in several areas.

For more more information please see this page.

* This Masters is jointly organized by the Faculty of Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering, of the University of Porto.

Physical Environment in Territory Planning* - #

Statistics

1 years

Surveying Engineering

2 years

This Master provides specialized knowledge in major areas of research in Surveying Engineering.

It lasts for two year, with the first year including 6 courses in several specialized topics; and the second the preparation of the dissertation.

Teaching of Astronomy

2 years

This Master is aimed at training teachers in charge of different courses at pre-university level which include Astronomy in their curricula. It is also of interest for other graduate people wishing to complement their education, at postgraduate level, in one of the scientific areas of faster expansion in the last decades.

It is a two years degree, in part-time, the first year including 13 unit courses on basic aspects of Astronomy. In the second year a dissertation will be prepared.
